Loading Island
1) A pedestrian refuge within the right-of-way and traffic lanes of a highway or street. It is provided at designated transit stops for the protection of passengers from traffic while they wait for and board or alight from transit vehicles. 2) A protected spot for the loading and unloading of passengers.
