Instrument Landing System
(See also Glideslope, Localizer, Middle Marker, Outer Marker) A precision instrument approach system which normally consists of the following electronic and visual aids: 1) localizer-provides course guidance to the runway; 2) glide slope-provides vertical guidance during approach; 3) marker beacon-provides aural and/or visual identification of a specific position along an instrument approach landing.
