Flight Plan Area

The geographical area assigned by regional air traffic divisions to a flight service station for the purpose of search and rescue for Visual Flight Rule (VFR) aircraft, issuance of NOTAMs, pilot briefing, in-flight services, broadcast, emergency services, flight data processing, international operations, and aviation weather services. Three letter identifiers are assigned to every flight service station and are annotated in AFD's and Order 7350.6 as tie-in-facilities. (FAA4)
