English Units
The term "English" refers to the United States legislative interpretation of the units as defined in a document prepared by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), U.S. Department of Commerce, Special Publication 330. Commonly used English units in Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) are miles, feet, and inches. (FHWA2)
