Differential
An amount added or deducted from base rate to make a rate to or from some other point or via another route. (MARAD2)
The gear assembly on the drive axle that permits the wheels to turn at different speeds; no-slip or limited-slip type: a gear assembly on the drive axle that will not permit one wheel to spin while the other is motionless. (TII1) (TII2)
