Defense Technology Security Administration

DTSA is the DOD organization that reviews applications for the export of
items that are subject to the dual-use license controls of the Commerce
Department and the munitions controls of the Department of State. DTSA has
about 130-to-140 staff, is located in the Office of the Secretary, and
administers DOD technology security policy so that the U.S. is not
technologically surprised on the battlefield. DTSA reviews applications
involving dual-use items for reasons of national security, proliferation
cases and munitions controls.
