Consumer Price Index
An index issued by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. The CPI is designed to measure changes in the prices of goods and services bought by wage earners and clerical workers in urban areas. It represents the cost of a typical consumption bundle at current prices as a ratio to its cost at a base year. (DOE6)
