| Definition Of: |
Timed Transfer System
A transit network consisting of one or more nodes (transit centers) and routes or lines radiating from them. The system is designed so that transit vehicles on all or most of the routes or lines are scheduled to arrive at a transit center simultaneously and depart a few minutes later; thus transfers among all the routes and lines involve virtually no waiting. TTS is typically used in suburban areas and for night service; in other words, for those cases in which headways are long. (TRB1)
