Air Taxi
An air carrier certificated in accordance with FAR Part 135 and authorized to provide, on demand, public transportation of persons and property by aircraft. Generally operates small aircraft "for hire" for specific trips. (FAA14)
An air taxi operator which: 1) Performs at least five round trips per week between two or more points and publishes flight schedules which specify the times, days of the week and places between which such flights are performed; or 2) Transports mail by air pursuant to a current contract with the U.S. Postal Service. (FAA13)
A classification of air carriers which directly engage in the air transportation of persons, property, mail, or in any combination of such transportation and which do not directly or indirectly use large aircraft (over 30 seats or a maximum payload capacity of more than 7,500 pounds) and do not hold a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity or economic authority issued by the Department of Transportation. Used to describe a helicopter/Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft movement conducted above the surface but normally not above 100 feet above ground level. The aircraft may proceed either via hover taxi or flight at speeds more than 20 knots. The pilot is solely responsible for selecting a safe airspeed/altitude for the operation being conducted. (FAA4)
A classification of air carriers, which transports, in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 135, persons, property, and mail using small aircraft (under 30 seats or a maximum payload capacity of 7,500). (FAA2)
