Air Brake

BTS Transportation Dictionary

A brake in which the mechanism is actuated by manipulation of air pressure. The term is often used to describe brakes that employ air under pressure above atmospheric, in contrast to vacuum brakes, which employ pressure below atmospheric. (TRB1)
